Sustainability and Values
SALVATICO is not a zero-impact property, but our commitment to sustainability and climate change adaptation translates into the Host’s daily choices and our collaboration with Guests. Together, we strive to be mindful of and implement the European Union’s DNSH (Do No Significant Harm) principles. Thanks to the dedication of the professionals and artisans mentioned above, we have achieved several important milestones.
Heating, Energy and Roof Remediation
To heat the rooms, a system featuring two high-efficiency biomass pellet stoves has been integrated into the existing setup. This way, the gas boilers are used exclusively for domestic hot water (and for emergencies). Integrating alternative systems to gas for hot water as well is in our future plans.
Furthermore, a photovoltaic system that covers our general electricity consumption has been installed on the new roof. The roof replacement was a major undertaking, as well as our primary effort to address a long-standing need for safety: the old roof was completely cleared of asbestos and replaced with a new sheet metal covering (a choice made to guarantee significantly greater durability over time).
Thermal Insulation
The old single-glazed wooden windows have been replaced with new wood-aluminium frames equipped with triple glazing, ensuring optimal insulation and drastically reducing heat loss.
Zero-Mile Shopping
The kitchen at SALVATICO is self-catering, but the Host will gladly recommend where Guests can buy fresh fruit and vegetables directly from local producers.
Household Consumption and Waste
We will run the washing machine and dishwasher only when fully loaded to optimise water and energy use.
We follow municipal recycling regulations: you will find clear signs above each bin on the property. The Host personally supervises the daily disposal and will correct any errors to ensure perfect recycling.
Cleaning
To wash dishes and do the laundry, we use eco-friendly detergents (Almacabio, Vivi Verde Coop, Mothers Earth).
To sanitise bathrooms and surfaces, standard disinfectants are currently used to guarantee maximum hygiene.
Plastic Reduction
To eliminate single-use waste, washable slippers are provided upon request (for guests who may have forgotten their own). These are thoroughly sanitised between every guest stay.
Water Usage
The installation of a rainwater harvesting tank was part of the original project but has been temporarily suspended due to a lack of resources. We draw from the municipal mains water supply, but to avoid wasting water, we only water the garden plants every other day, either late in the evening or early in the morning.
Biodiversity and Garden Care
We love preserving nature’s spontaneous beauty and enjoying the slow pleasure of walking among wild species. Our meadow is mowed just once a year to protect biodiversity and help the garden better withstand the intense summer heat. Every year most of the species return and new ones join them, sprouting from seeds carried by the wind, animals, and water. We use the lawnmower only once a year; all other weekly maintenance and minor pruning are done by hand with shears. This reduces disruptive noises, ensuring peace for our guests and the wildlife living in the garden. Embracing tall grass and biodiversity also means welcoming all wildlife, including insects and ticks. For this reason, we provide our guests with essential oils and natural remedies to stay protected in complete safety and in perfect harmony with nature.
Mobility
The property is easily accessible by public transport (train and local bus).
